Improve insulation and acoustics in vocal and speaker booths

You can easily achieve the ideal sound insulation or perfect noise protection in a vocal booth, speaker's booth or recording booth with foam. Regardless of whether you want to improve the acoustics in the booth or optimally insulate noise to the outside - we have the right materials for you.

1

Optimization of the acoustics in the room

We distinguish between two cases below: Optimizing the acoustics in the speaker's booth, the vocal booth or the recording studio - i.e. reducing the reverberation - and insulating to the outside so that the adjacent rooms do not notice anything. Both cases require different materials, which are documented in detail in our online store so that you can easily find the right acoustic foams. Regardless of whether you use a normal studio or room or have already built a small booth - in all cases you can reduce the reverberation with the same measures and significantly improve the recordings. As it concerns human voices or music or musical instruments, reverberation is easy to reduce here. You need so-called open-pored, porous sound absorbers made of foam, into which the sound waves penetrate and are absorbed.

2

Choosing the right foam

In principle, you can use any foam, but there are differences in quality, color, shape and thickness. We would like to briefly explain these points to make it easier for you to choose the optimum foam for your project. Since you will be in the speech booth or vocal booth, visually appealing sound insulation is particularly important in addition to sound absorption.

3

Color selection of the acoustic foam

When choosing a color, you should bear in mind that dark foams also absorb light. It makes sense to keep the room light, especially if you spend a long time in the cabin. Accordingly, white or light gray panels have advantages. The Basotect® white B or light gray G+ melamine acoustic foams also meet this criterion in terms of low flammability.

4

Use of thicker foams for low frequencies

In vocal booths, the frequency spectrum is also significantly larger, depending on the type of singing. For low frequencies below 200 Hz, thicker foams with thicknesses of 70 mm and more can also be used here.

5

Shape of the acoustic foam

The shape is also crucial. Usually, nubbed foam or pyramid foam is used here, as these types of foam dampen well in the medium and high frequency range. Flat foams without profiling, such as flat acoustic foams made from Basotect® G+ melamine foams, also dampen more in the lower range and are also more broadband, i.e. more across all frequencies.

How much acoustic foam do you need?

The more acoustic foam you use, the more is absorbed.

1

Quantity of acoustic foam

For example, if you line all the walls and ceilings, the room is anechoic. If you record your voice or vocals, you will have a recording without any reverb. However, most clients don't line everything, leaving a natural reverb in the recordings or simply leaving it audible in the room itself.

2

Optimal attachment

If you don't want an anechoic chamber, we recommend completely lining the ceiling and installing a few strips or panels at head height in the room or booth. In this way, the sound absorption takes effect directly where people are speaking or singing. Our pyramid foams or nap foams with a panel thickness of 30 mm to 60 mm can be used in this area.

3

Sound insulation to the outside

In addition to improving the acoustics in the room itself, it is often also important that nothing can be heard from outside. To achieve this, the walls, ceilings and possibly also doors or even windows need to be insulated.

4

Suitable materials

For good sound insulation from the outside, you need heavy foam that is as thick as possible so that the sound is actually blocked, such as PUR recycled foam.
