Foam materials can be cut mechanically using a band saw fitted with a fine-toothed or toothless blade.
For foam with a thickness of 20 mm to 30 mm, the material can still be cut very well with a sharp pair of scissors. However, if you wish to cut thicker foam, you will achieve very good results with an electric meat knife. The two counter-rotating blades ensure the material is cut very precisely and cleanly. If you do not have an electric knife to hand, you can also use a standard bread knife. The bread knife should have a serrated edge. Cutters or meat knives with a smooth blade are not recommended, as the blade will quickly become blunt and result in frayed edges. Applying a little vegetable oil to the recommended knife blade helps to make the cut a little easier.
Another option:
To ensure a ‘clean’ cut, it is advisable to compress the foam as far as possible to ‘0’ using a ruler and, in this position, cut through it in one go with a sharp craft knife.
