Ethafoam® 220 PE packaging foams are among the most proven solutions for energy-absorbing packaging and offer reliable protection for a wide range of applications – from sensitive medical devices to heavy industrial components. The extruded polyethylene foam with a closed-cell structure offers impressive shock absorption, dimensional stability and resistance to moisture, chemicals and ageing.
With a density of around 35 kg/m³, Ethafoam® 220 combines robustness with lightness. The compression strength is approximately 40 kPa at 10% deformation, 55 kPa at 25% and 110 kPa at 50%. This is complemented by a tensile strength of approx. 300 kPa, an elongation at break of 60% and a low compression set of just 5%. Thanks to these properties, the material reliably retains its shape even under dynamic loads and maintains its protective effect over long periods.
Ethafoam® 220 is not only high-performance but also extremely versatile in processing. It is easy to cut, die-cut or weld and is available in both black and white. Antistatic or flame-retardant variants are also available on request, allowing the foam to be optimally adapted to the specific application. Standard formats and custom cuts facilitate integration into existing packaging concepts.
Compared to Vibra®cell, Ethafoam® 220 demonstrates its strengths particularly in its high dimensional stability and clean machining. This makes it particularly suitable for applications where precise edges and exact fits are required. Vibra®cell, on the other hand, offers a softer, more elastic alternative when energy absorption and rebound are the primary considerations.
Typical applications include single-use and reusable packaging, suitcase inserts, export packaging and protective padding for transport and storage. Thanks to an optional antistatic version, Ethafoam® 220 is also ideal for protecting sensitive electronics. This foam thus offers a well-thought-out combination of stability, versatility and long-lasting protection – for safe transport and maximum product safety
Delivery form
Ethafoam® 220 packaging foams are supplied as standard in the form of untrimmed sheets in black and white. They are available in various thicknesses and can be cut to size and finished to customer specifications on request. Packaged in film, these sheets are ideal for further processing in the protection and packaging sectors.
