Basotect® G+ is a special melamine foam from BASF SE. It is a thermosetting, elastified foam based on melamine resin, characterised by a unique combination of functionality, safety and sustainability.

Its special cell structure gives it high sound absorption capacity in the mid and high frequency ranges, thereby effectively reducing reverberation times. This makes the material particularly suitable for acoustic applications in buildings, vehicles and industrial facilities.

A key feature of Basotect® G+ is its excellent fire performance. The foam is classified as building material class B1 (‘flame-retardant’) in accordance with DIN 4102-1 and complies with the rail vehicle standard EN 45545:2020. In the event of a fire, only minimal smoke is produced, coupled with low toxicity, meaning that Basotect® can also be used in safety-critical areas such as aviation, rail vehicles and public buildings.

In addition to its acoustic and fire-retardant properties, Basotect® G+ is characterised by a very low density of approx. 9 kg/m³, which facilitates fulfilment and installation. The material is dimensionally stable, highly temperature-resistant up to approximately +240 °C in continuous operation, and has a low thermal conductivity of approx. 0.036 W/m·K, enabling it to be used as a thermal insulation material. Its mechanical workability, for example through cutting, milling or punching, allows for flexible adaptation to different geometries and application environments.

The combination of these properties results in a wide range of applications. Basotect® G+ is used in building acoustics and interior design, in vehicle and aircraft construction, in railway engineering and in the electrical industry. Furthermore, the foam is used in mechanical and plant engineering, where it serves for soundproofing and thermal insulation of machine casings, pumps or compressors.

Delivery form

The material is supplied as standard in the form of unedged sheets and can also be produced as a custom-fit cut-to-size piece according to individual dimensions on request. Precise machining and short lead times enable easy integration into a wide variety of applications.

The sheets are supplied in film packaging and must be stored in a dry place. Prolonged exposure to direct UV light must be avoided.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: Basotect® G+ primarily absorbs sound in the mid and high frequency ranges. As a rule of thumb: the thicker the panel, the better the absorption at low frequencies. For enhancing room acoustics in offices or technical rooms, 25 to 40 mm is often sufficient. For more demanding applications involving low frequencies, such as in mechanical engineering or recording studios, 50 to 100 mm is recommended. If you are unsure, we are happy to assist with the design.
A: Yes. Basotect® G+ complies with standard EN 45545:2020, the relevant fire safety standard for rail vehicles in Europe. The foam is classified as building material class B1 in accordance with DIN 4102-1, produces only minimal smoke in the event of a fire and has low toxicity. It is therefore suitable for use in railway applications where strict fire safety requirements apply.
A: Yes, this is an often underestimated advantage. Basotect® G+ has a thermal conductivity of approx. 0.036 W/(m·K) and is permanently temperature-resistant up to around 240 °C. This makes it suitable not only for acoustic applications, but also for the thermal insulation of machine casings, pipework or industrial plant.
A: Yes. Vibraplast supplies Basotect® G+ both as standard sheets (2100 x 1250 mm) and as custom-cut pieces to your specifications. The material can be cut, milled and punched with precision. Requests for custom cuts can be placed directly via the shop or using the contact form.
