Silphon® PUR recycled foam is one of the most effective materials in the field of industrial sound and noise insulation. Manufactured from recycled production and processing residues of polyurethane flexible foam, a special compression process creates a particularly dense composite foam whose densities can reach values ranging from well over 100 kg/m³ up to around 700 kg/m³, depending on requirements. This high material density is the key to its excellent sound insulation performance, as it gives the material enormous mass and stability, which reliably blocks airborne sound whilst simultaneously dampening vibrations.

This manufacturing process makes the recycled foam not only acoustically effective but also sustainable. Instead of using fresh raw materials, foam scraps are collected, shredded and compressed under high pressure with a polyurethane binder to form stable panels. This allows a waste product that would otherwise be discarded to be sensibly reused and transformed into a durable, functional acoustic material. The resulting foam panels have a characteristic marbled structure, which is composed of the different colour and material components of the foam scraps.

In practice, Silphon® recycled foam impresses with its combination of high acoustic effectiveness, mechanical resilience and long service life. It is particularly frequently used in machine and unit casings, where it effectively dampens engine noise, compressor noise or vibrations. It is also used in soundproof booths, enclosures and industrial halls, as here it not only absorbs sound but also serves as a robust insulation panel capable of withstanding mechanical stress.

Additionally, the recycled foam can be paired with heavy-duty layers or films to further enhance its sound-absorbing properties. These composite solutions are particularly suitable for applications that demand high sound insulation values in a compact design. Thanks to its high dimensional stability, the foam reliably retains its shape even under continuous stress, without crumbling or deforming.

Another advantage lies in its versatility: it is available in various panel thicknesses, can be easily cut to size and can thus be individually adapted to almost any project. Whether in plant engineering, vehicle construction, technical installations or specialised room acoustic solutions – Silphon® PUR recycled foam offers an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for all areas where noise reduction and high-level sound insulation are required.

Delivery form

The material is supplied as standard in the form of unedged sheets and can also be produced as a custom-fit cut-to-size piece according to individual dimensions on request. Precise machining and short lead times enable easy integration into a wide variety of applications.

The sheets are supplied in film packaging and must be stored in a dry place. Prolonged exposure to direct UV light must be avoided.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: Silphon® PUR recycled foam is manufactured from reprocessed PUR foam waste. The inclusions of different colours are a natural feature of the recycling process and do not constitute a quality defect. The material is ideal for applications where sustainability and cost-efficiency are key priorities.
A: Recycled foam generally has a slightly higher density than virgin material, which can have a slight positive effect on sound absorption. For most industrial and building acoustics applications, the performance is comparable. However, for high-precision acoustic requirements (e.g. measurement laboratories), we recommend virgin material.
A: Recycled foam is ideal for applications where aesthetic requirements are minimal: underlays in technical rooms, impact sound insulation, filling material in machine enclosures and large-scale installations in industrial halls. Its more favourable price-performance ratio makes it the economical choice for large quantities.
A: Yes. Silphon® PUR recycled foam is available as standard sheet stock and can be supplied cut to custom dimensions upon request. For bulk orders and projects with specific thickness requirements, we recommend submitting a direct inquiry.
