Silphon® flat foam with PU skin – acoustic effectiveness meets protective function
Silphon® flat foam with a PU skin is a high-performance acoustic material that has been specially developed for environments where sound absorption and protection against moisture or contamination are required simultaneously. It is based on an open-cell polyurethane foam which, thanks to its open-cell structure, reliably absorbs sound waves and thus effectively reduces disturbing noise in the mid-frequency range.

What makes this variant special is the single-sided coating with a robust polyurethane skin. It seals the surface, makes the foam water- and dirt-repellent, and makes cleaning considerably easier. This ensures the material remains durable and hygienic even in harsh environments. At the same time, the reverse side features a self-adhesive backing, enabling quick and straightforward installation – without the need for any additional tools or fixing materials.

These properties make the foam a particularly versatile solution. In air conditioning and ventilation technology, it prevents moisture or dust from impairing the acoustic performance. In machine casings or unit housings, it not only ensures significant noise reduction but also retains its shape under heavy use and is easy to clean. It also proves its worth in industrial cladding and housings that regularly come into contact with dirt, dust or splash water.

Combining efficient sound absorption, reliable protection and easy processing, Silphon® flat foam with a PU skin offers a practical and durable solution for a wide range of technical and industrial applications.

Delivery form

The material is supplied as standard in the form of unedged sheets and can also be produced as a custom-fit cut-to-size piece according to individual dimensions on request. Precise machining and short lead times enable easy integration into a wide variety of applications.

The sheets are supplied in film packaging and must be stored in a dry place. Prolonged exposure to direct UV light must be avoided.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: The integrated polyurethane skin protects the foam from mechanical stress, dust, and moisture. This makes this type particularly durable in environments where the foam is exposed to direct contact or abrasion—such as in machine enclosures, vehicle interiors, or industrial facilities.
A: The polyurethane skin has a slight damping effect on sound absorption because it partially covers the open-cell surface of the foam. For applications where maximum absorption is a priority, the flat foam without skin is preferable. However, if protection and durability are more important than ultimate acoustic efficiency, the skin variant is the better choice.
A: Silphon® flat foam with a polyurethane skin is available in rolls of standard lengths and can be cut to custom dimensions. This allows for efficient processing, even on large surfaces.
A: Yes, particularly well. The robust surface, temperature resistance from -40 °C to +120 °C and compliance with the MVSS 302 automotive standard make this foam a suitable material for lining engine compartments, door panels, underbodies and other vehicle components.
