Aluminium foils used as a top layer for foams offer an elegant and highly functional technical solution for the surface finishing of insulation, sound insulation or absorption systems. Laminating a thin sheet of pure aluminium onto foam creates a diffusion-tight barrier that acts as a vapour barrier whilst also making the surface significantly more resistant to moisture, mechanical stress or soiling. This property makes the material particularly suitable for applications where a clean, durable surface is required – for example, in technical installations, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, pipework, or as a visible component in sound and thermal insulation.

In practical use, the aluminium foil prevents moisture vapour from penetrating the insulation material; it provides a clear boundary with the surrounding environment and effectively protects the underlying foam substrate. At the same time, the material remains flexible to work with: aluminium-laminated foams can still be cut to size, installed or retrofitted, making renovations and conversions easier to carry out. The aluminium lamination can (depending on the design) also contribute to thermal insulation, meaning that the system is suitable not only for sound insulation but, within certain limits, also for thermal insulation or cold protection.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A: Aluminium foil as a laminate serves several functions: it protects the underlying insulation material from moisture and vapour diffusion, reflects thermal radiation (relevant in combined thermal and acoustic insulation applications), and makes the surface easier to clean. In ventilation and air-conditioning technology, aluminium lamination of insulation mats is standard practice.
A: The aluminium foil in our product range is a laminating film that is laminated onto the backing material using adhesive. For self-adhesive aluminium tapes, we recommend the crepe paper tape or a special aluminium tape – please enquire directly.
A: Aluminium foil is available in rolls with a thickness of 0.03 mm, a width of 1250 mm and a length of 200,000 mm. Cut-to-size sheets are available on request.
A: Aluminium foil is temperature-resistant up to approx. 150–200 °C and is therefore suitable for many high-temperature applications when used in combination with glass fibre mats or other high-temperature insulation materials. For higher temperatures, we recommend a special version.
