The Silphon® acoustic cylinder is a modern, high-performance solution for the targeted improvement of room acoustics, manufactured from the open-cell melamine resin foam Basotect® G+ with a density of approximately 9 kg/m³. Thanks to this choice of material, the product combines exceptionally low weight with high sound absorption performance across a broad frequency spectrum – ideal for rooms with demanding acoustic requirements such as offices, studios, conference rooms or production facilities.
The standard dimensions are approximately 500 mm in length with a diameter of 150 mm or 1000 mm in length with a diameter of 100 mm; custom-made products are possible thanks to ‘Swiss-made’ manufacturing. The cylindrical shape enables versatile installation, such as suspended from ceilings or as a space-defining element within the interior, thereby effectively reducing sound reflections off ceilings and surfaces. The lightweight structure makes installation considerably easier and is particularly well-suited for retrofitting in existing spaces.
In terms of materials, the acoustic cylinder impresses with several key properties: it meets fire safety class B1 according to DIN 4102 (“flame-retardant”) and also holds BKZ 5.2 classification – meaning it can also be used in publicly accessible or commercial buildings. The open-pored microstructure of the foam efficiently absorbs sound waves: incident sound energy is distributed within the material, converted into heat and not reflected back into the room, leading to a noticeable reduction in reverberation times and more pleasant room acoustics.
In practice, the Silphon® acoustic cylinder offers numerous advantages: with its cylindrical shape and light grey colour, it blends harmoniously into modern interior designs – either as a design feature or as an unobtrusive sound-absorbing component. Installation is straightforward, for example using wire or rope suspension, hook and nylon thread solutions, or directly on grid and acoustic ceilings. Thanks to its low dead weight and slim profile, installation is quick and requires minimal effort, making it ideal for project managers, architectural firms, installers and private clients.
