The half-shell pipe silencers based on high-performance melamine foam from BASF represent a technically mature solution for the effective reduction of airborne and structure-borne noise in piping, air conditioning and ventilation systems. The open-cell, thermosetting foam core has a delicate network structure that specifically absorbs, distributes and converts sound waves into heat. A property which, combined with its low weight and excellent fire performance, delivers a comprehensive performance package for demanding applications.

In the half-shell version, the material is precisely contoured and manufactured to fit pipe diameters, resulting in a form-fitting adaptation to the pipe substrate, thereby effectively reducing unwanted resonances, sound reflections and vibration transmission. Installation is efficient: the half-shell is placed around the pipe on both sides and can, if required, be supplemented with a self-adhesive coating, sealing tape or mechanical fastenings to ensure a continuous acoustic seal.

Typical applications include ventilation ducts and air ducts in commercial and industrial buildings, building services, machine rooms, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. In the field of pipe and infrastructure systems, airborne and structure-borne sound insulation is particularly relevant where airflows, fans or units cause loud noise transmission.

Technically, the material also impresses with the following characteristics: a thermal conductivity of approximately 0.032 W/m·K, a temperature resistance from –40 °C to +150 °C (even up to +200 °C for short periods), and a fire class rating of flame-retardant BKZ 5.2 or classification according to DIN 4102-B1. It therefore meets both acoustic and safety requirements.

Delivery form

The half-shell silencer inserts made from Basotect® G+ melamine foam are supplied as standard as contour-cut half-shells, which can be fitted directly into pipes. On request, we manufacture custom-cut pieces or complete installation modules based on pipe diameter and geometry.
