The food-grade EPDM rubber sheet is specially designed for applications involving food contact and consists of 100 % EPDM polymer. Its light, natural white finish allows for easy visual inspection of cleanliness, making it the preferred choice in hygiene-sensitive environments – such as in food and beverage processing, the packaging industry, or as a seal and support on equipment that comes into contact with food. The material is specified as food-grade for food contact; we can provide the relevant certificate of conformity on request.
This grade offers an exceptionally broad range of resistance properties. The sheet offers excellent resistance to ozone and weathering, as well as to diluted and concentrated acids and alkalis – and is therefore also well suited to withstanding many cleaning agents and disinfectants, an important advantage in facilities with regular cleaning cycles. Unlike most EPDM grades, it also exhibits excellent oil resistance. The material is not designed for contact with solvents. The operating temperature range extends from –25 °C to +140 °C, thereby also covering hot cleaning and steam applications within the usual parameters.
Mechanically, with a hardness of 60 ± 5 Shore A, the sheet offers a minimum tensile strength of 50 kg/cm² (approximately 4.9 MPa), an elongation at break of at least 300 %, a compression set of no more than 40 % and a tear strength of 18 kg/cm. Following heat ageing at 70 °C, the properties remain stable within tight tolerances. The sheet features a smooth finish on both sides, providing a clean contact surface and a uniform appearance.
With a density of 1.30 g/cm³ and its light-coloured finish, the food-grade EPDM sheet can be cut to size, die-cut and fabricated – available by the metre and as bespoke cut-to-size sheets for seals, pads and bespoke solutions in the food industry.
