Product description

Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced is an acoustic foam made from melamine resin. It is dyed dark grey throughout. It absorbs sound where it is a nuisance: in the office, in the meeting room, in the studio, in the equipment room or in the ventilation system. The result is reduced reverberation and quieter, more pleasant acoustics.

The difference compared to the classic white Basotect lies in the colour. Nothing shows through dark acoustic materials; even cut edges remain dark, and dust or fingerprints are less visible. The acoustic performance is the same as that of the tried-and-tested Basotect: over 90 % sound absorption at 2000 Hz with a thickness of 50 mm. In addition, the material is feather-light at around 8.5 kg/m³ and, from a thickness of 20 mm, is flame-retardant (class B1 according to DIN 4102-1, without self-adhesive backing).

The foam is manufactured using green electricity and renewable raw materials and, according to the manufacturer, has a carbon footprint up to 50 % lower than standard Basotect.

Available in thicknesses from 5 to 100 mm, with or without self-adhesive backing on one side.

Delivery formats

We cut Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced to your exact specifications on CNC machines at our premises in Aadorf, starting from a single piece. You order by the square metre and receive the panels tailored to your application. You won’t need to cut them yourself.

Whole sheets are available up to 2100 × 1250 mm or cut to size, in thicknesses of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 and 100 mm. The sheets are available without self-adhesive backing – for gluing, inserting or clamping – or with self-adhesive backing on one side for quick application to smooth surfaces. We produce moulded parts, cut-outs and milled features to your drawings or sketches. We would be happy to provide a quotation for larger quantities and projects.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does this help with noise from neighbours?

No, not on its own. Basotect absorbs sound within the room, thereby reducing reverberation. To tackle noise coming through walls or ceilings, you need a heavy-duty material, such as a heavy foil. Both solutions can be combined; we’d be happy to advise you.

What thickness do I need?

For speech in offices and meeting rooms, 40–50 mm is a good standard. Thicknesses of 80–100 mm are suitable for low-frequency sounds, such as music or machinery. Thin panels up to 15 mm are primarily intended for design purposes and to reduce high-frequency sounds.

How much surface area do I need to cover?

As a rule of thumb, 20 to 40 % of the ceiling and wall area is sufficient in offices and meeting rooms.

Can I cut the sheets to size myself?

Yes, using a sharp craft knife and a metal ruler. It’s easier if you provide us with the dimensions: we’ll cut them cleanly and to exact specifications using CNC machines.

How do I fix the panels in place?

Self-adhesive panels should be applied directly to a smooth, clean and dust-free surface. Panels without self-adhesive backing should be fixed using contact adhesive or spray adhesive, in frames and profiles, or as loose inserts. Further details can be found in our installation instructions.

Has the material been tested for fire safety?

Yes. From a thickness of 20 mm and in the non-self-adhesive version, it is flame-retardant in accordance with DIN 4102-1 (B1). This classification does not apply to thinner sheets or to the self-adhesive version. If you have any fire safety requirements, please contact us in advance.

Does the foam change over time?

The material absorbs and releases moisture from the air. Therefore, you should leave the panels to acclimatise indoors for a few days before installation to prevent gaps from forming later on.

How do I clean the panels?

Use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner fitted with a brush attachment. Do not clean with water and do not scrub.
