Plastazote® LD29 is a high-quality, closed-cell polyethylene foam characterised by its particularly fine cell structure, lightness and elegant surface. It is produced using a special nitrogen expansion process that does not require chemical blowing agents. This makes the material virtually odourless, hygienic and environmentally friendly – a property that also makes it suitable for sensitive applications such as in the medical or electronics sectors.
With a density of around 29 kg/m³, LD29 is exceptionally lightweight yet offers high strength and stability. Its elastic structure ensures that impacts are effectively absorbed and distributed without causing permanent deformation. The tensile strength is around 375–400 kPa, the elongation at break is over 130% and the tear strength is around 740 N/m. These mechanical properties are complemented by balanced compression characteristics – at 25% compression, the compression hardness is approximately 64 kPa. Even under repeated loading, the foam reliably retains its shape thanks to its low compression set.
Another advantage of Plastazote® LD29 is its high durability. The temperature range extends from –70 °C to +95 °C, and even up to +100 °C for short periods, meaning the foam can be used even in environments with significant temperature fluctuations. With a thermal conductivity of around 0.039 W/m·K, LD29 also acts as an insulator and protects sensitive contents from temperature fluctuations. It is water-repellent and resistant to many chemicals.
LD29 is extremely versatile in processing. It can be easily cut, die-cut, milled, thermoformed or even laser-cut. This allows for the creation of precisely fitting inserts, liners or padding in almost any shape. LD29 is available in black and white as standard, but other colours are also available on request – a major advantage when design and brand recognition are key, such as in branded packaging or high-quality presentation solutions.
The applications for Plastazote® LD29 are diverse. It is particularly popular for tool and equipment inserts where both protection and a clean, attractive appearance are required. It is equally suitable for case inserts, packaging and presentation solutions, medical applications or the transport of sensitive electronics. Thanks to its combination of low weight, high protective performance and elegant appearance, LD29 is not only a functional but also a design asset.
Overall, Plastazote® LD29 combines lightness, stability, durability and design versatility in a single material. It provides reliable protection, is easy to process and can be customised, and its elegant surface finish ensures a high-quality appearance. This makes it the perfect choice for anyone who values a combination of technical performance and an attractive appearance.
