SI/MVQ silicone rubber sheet, metal-detectable (60 Shore A)
Metal-detectable silicone rubber sheet, blue (60 Shore A) – for the highest standards of food safety
The metal-detectable silicone rubber sheet (VMQ) is a special grade designed for hygiene-critical applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Detectable fillers are mixed into the silicone so that any material particles that may become detached can be detected by the metal detectors on the production line and removed. Combined with its signal blue colour, which enables immediate visual identification, the sheet offers a dual level of safety and thus supports stringent hygiene and HACCP requirements. The material is designed for food contact; we can provide the relevant certificates of conformity and detectability on request.

The metal-detectable silicone rubber sheet (VMQ) is a special-grade product for hygiene-critical applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Detectable fillers are mixed into the silicone so that any material particles that may become detached can be detected by the metal detectors on the production line and ejected. Combined with its signal blue colour, which enables immediate visual identification, the sheet offers a dual level of safety and thus supports stringent hygiene and HACCP requirements. The material is designed for food contact; we can provide the relevant certificates of conformity and detectability on request.
As is typical for silicone, the sheet impresses with its exceptionally wide operating temperature range from –90 °C to +230 °C – no other common elastomer material covers such a wide range of temperatures. This makes it ideal for seals and supports in baking, steaming and sterilisation processes, as well as in refrigeration technology. Even after prolonged thermal stress, the properties remain exceptionally stable (tested at 100 °C with only minimal change).
It offers a broad range of resistance: excellent resistance to ozone, UV and weathering, as well as to diluted and concentrated acids and alkalis. This grade offers good resistance to oils and limited resistance to solvents. Mechanically, silicone is a material designed for temperature and hygiene requirements: with a hardness of 60 ± 5 Shore A, the sheet offers a tensile strength of 60 kg/cm² (approximately 5.9 MPa), an elongation at break of at least 200 %, a compression set of no more than 40 % and a tear strength of 20 kg/cm. Other grades are better suited to applications subject to high mechanical or abrasive stress.
With a density of 1.30 g/cm³ and in its blue version, this metal-detectable silicone sheet can be cut to size, punched and processed into moulded seals – available by the metre and as bespoke cut-to-size sheets for hygiene-critical sealing and support applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
