Basotect® G+H melamine foam – water-repellent

Basotect® G+ is an open-cell, thermosetting melamine resin foam known for its excellent sound absorption, low weight and outstanding fire performance. The material can be further hydrophobised using a special post-treatment impregnation process. This modifies the foam’s cell walls in such a way that the absorption of water, particularly dripping and splashing water, is significantly reduced. The open-cell structure is retained, ensuring that the foam’s acoustic properties remain fully intact.

This hydrophobic treatment significantly enhances moisture resistance: while standard melamine foam absorbs liquids fairly quickly, the hydrophobic version reliably repels water. This makes Basotect® G+ hydrophobic particularly suitable for applications in environments with high humidity or where there is contact with splashed water and condensation, such as in air conditioning and ventilation systems or in the housings of machinery and equipment.

Another effect of the treatment is a reduction in compression stiffness. This makes the material softer, more flexible and more adaptable. This property facilitates processing, particularly in the case of complex geometries or hard-to-reach areas. Basotect® G+ hydrophobic is easy to cut, shape and install, enabling precise integration into a wide variety of applications.
