Silphon® High-Density Foam
Silphon® Heavy Foam – combined acoustic and vibration-damping foam with a bitumen-based heavy layer
Silphon® Heavy Foam is a composite acoustic foam consisting of thermally embossed polyether foam (PU) with an additional bitumen-impregnated heavy layer laminated onto it. The combination of open-cell foam and a heavy top layer brings together two functions – sound absorption and vibration damping – which would otherwise require two separate products, into a single, single-sided self-adhesive sheet. With its thermally embossed, spherical-structured and durable surface, Silphon® heavy-duty foam is particularly suitable for engine rooms, vehicle and equipment manufacturing, cladding and enclosures, as well as ventilation and plant engineering.

With its thermally embossed, spherical-structured and durable surface, Silphon® Heavy Foam is particularly suitable for engine rooms, vehicle and equipment manufacturing, cladding and enclosures, as well as ventilation and plant engineering.
The foam core has a density of approximately 28–30 kg/m³ in accordance with ISO 845, with a tensile strength of at least 90 kPa and an elongation at break of at least 120 % in accordance with ISO 1798. The operating temperature range extends from –40 °C to +105 °C, and up to +120 °C for short periods. Depending on the foam thickness, the material achieves a sound absorption coefficient αw of 0.60 to 0.85, corresponding to absorber classes C to B in accordance with EN ISO 11654.
The key factor in making the right choice is whether both functions are actually required: Silphon® heavy-duty foam is designed for the simultaneous combination of sound absorption and vibration damping. If only structure-borne or impact sound insulation is required, without any sound absorption, our pure bitumen heavy-duty sheet, Terodem, is the more cost-effective solution. If, on the other hand, the primary focus is on sound absorption alone, without additional weight or reverberation control being a factor, we recommend one of our lighter, uncoated acoustic foam grades.
Delivery form
Silphon® high-density foam is available in total thicknesses of 17, 22, 32 and 42 mm (15/20/30/40 mm foam plus a 2 mm bituminous heavy-duty layer), in standard sheet sizes of 1000 x 500 mm and as large sheets up to 2000 x 1000 mm. The visible side is anthracite and has an embossed texture, whilst the reverse side is self-adhesive on one side with a removable release liner. Cutting to size and customisation according to drawings are available on request.
