Silphon®Kombi sound insulation mats are a highly effective acoustic material for applications where airborne and structure-borne noise must be reduced simultaneously and where a compact, easy-to-install material solution is required. The construction is based on a heavy, elastic plastic film that is firmly bonded to a technically specified polyurethane foam. This hybrid construction combines mass, internal damping and controlled impedance matching. This effectively addresses precisely the frequency range where conventional insulation boards or pure foams reach their physical limits: low and mid-range frequencies, which are considered particularly disruptive and energy-rich.

The heavy film functions as a mechanically stable, mass-dominant barrier, ensuring that a large proportion of incident sound is directly attenuated or reflected. The PUR foam elastically couples the system to the component, minimises the transmission of vibration energy into the structure and prevents resonance or secondary vibrations in the base material. This results in an acoustically effective combination of barrier action and damping, which achieves a significant improvement in perceived quietness and operational comfort, particularly in thin-walled components such as sheet metal, sewage pipes, steel housings, hoods, units or HVAC ducts. Its low profile, flexible handling, quick installation, and easy cutting not only enable integration into new builds but also make the material ideal for retrofitting and aftermarket applications where existing systems require acoustic upgrades. Silphon®Kombi systems are resistant to ageing, permanently low-emission and odourless, making the solution suitable for use in both industrial environments and more sensitive building environments.

With this combination of mass-based transmission loss and broadband attenuation, Silphon®Kombi offers a technically mature solution for professional ductwork, duct insulation, structure-borne sound attenuation in machine rooms, sound insulation in service engineering, or for optimising acoustic quality in HVAC networks; optimised for professional use, but also suitable for domestic applications where noticeable quietness and acoustic efficiency are paramount.

Delivery form

The material is supplied as standard in the form of unedged sheets and can also be produced as a custom-fit cut-to-size piece according to individual dimensions on request. Precise machining and short lead times enable easy integration into a wide variety of applications.

The sheets are supplied in film packaging and must be stored in a dry place. Prolonged exposure to direct UV light must be avoided.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: The Silphon® Kombi soundproofing mat has a multi-layered composite structure: it combines a heavy foil layer for sound insulation (structure-borne noise reduction) with a foam layer for sound absorption. This combination fulfils two functions simultaneously – it insulates against noise between two areas whilst also absorbing reverberation within an enclosure or cladding.
A: The material is frequently used in the enclosure of machines, compressors, pumps and generators. It is also widely used in vehicle construction, for the insulation of engine compartments, underbodies and door panels. Wherever both insulation and absorption are required in confined spaces, the combination mat is the most cost-effective solution.
A: A standard heavy foil primarily dampens structure-borne and airborne noise due to its high mass. However, it does not absorb reverberation within an enclosure. The Combi soundproofing mat enhances the damping effect with a foam component, which additionally reduces reverberation and resonance within the enclosure. The result is significantly higher overall damping.
A: Yes. The material is available as standard sheets and can be cut to individual dimensions on request. For complex geometries – such as when enclosing machinery – we recommend submitting an enquiry with a technical drawing or sample.
