Silphon® flat polyurethane (PUR) foams are high-quality, open-cell acoustic foams that have been specially developed for sound and noise insulation. Thanks to their open-cell structure, they reliably absorb sound waves and thus play a decisive role in reducing reverberation and disruptive noise. With a compression hardness ranging from 3.15 to 3.85 kPa, the foams offer a pleasant softness whilst ensuring excellent dimensional stability.

A key feature of Silphon® PUR foam is its thermal resistance: it remains permanently serviceable even at temperatures ranging from –40 °C to +120 °C. This is complemented by compliance with the fire safety requirements of MVSS 302, making it particularly well-suited for applications in vehicles, technical installations and safety-critical areas.

Its wide range of applications extends from improving room acoustics in music and rehearsal rooms, through sound insulation in offices and public buildings, to technical noise reduction in machine and plant enclosures. Silphon® PUR foam is frequently used in the enclosure of compressors, power units or industrial plant, where it effectively reduces operating noise and thus provides significant noise relief.

Thanks to its low weight and excellent workability, the foam can be easily cut, adapted and installed, enabling flexible integration into a wide range of projects. Silphon® PUR flat foam thus offers a balanced combination of acoustic effectiveness, fire protection, temperature resistance and ease of handling – a reliable solution for professional sound and noise protection requirements.

Delivery form

The material is supplied as standard in the form of unedged sheets and can also be produced as a custom-fit cut-to-size piece according to individual dimensions on request. Precise machining and short lead times enable easy integration into a wide variety of applications.

The sheets are supplied in film packaging and must be stored in a dry place. Prolonged exposure to direct UV light must be avoided.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: Silphon® PUR flat foam is suitable for applications requiring uniform, surface-level damping: enclosing machinery, compressors and power units; lining vehicle interiors; damping in technical cabinets; and retrofitting walls and ceilings in offices or rehearsal rooms. The smooth surface facilitates lamination and bonding.
A: Silphon® PUR flat foam is available in two densities. The lighter variant (lower density) is more cost-effective and suitable for applications subject to lower loads. The heavier variant offers higher compression resistance and better dimensional stability – recommended wherever the foam is exposed to mechanical stress or a longer service life is required.
A: Yes. Silphon® PUR flat foam is available with and without factory-applied self-adhesive backing. The self-adhesive version significantly simplifies installation, as no additional adhesive is required. Processing instructions are available in the document ‘Processing Instructions for Self-Adhesive Backing’, which can be downloaded from the product page.
A: Silphon® PUR flat foam is available in thicknesses ranging from 5 to 100 mm. As a rule of thumb, the lower the frequencies to be attenuated, the thicker the material should be. For high-frequency absorption, 10 to 25 mm is sufficient. For broadband attenuation in machine rooms and technical rooms, 40 to 100 mm is recommended.
