Terodem® heavy-duty bitumen sheets are specially developed insulation materials used wherever disruptive noise, vibrations or resonances need to be reliably reduced. Manufactured from polymer-modified bitumen, they combine high mass with viscoelastic properties – it is precisely this combination that makes them so effective. On the one hand, the sheet increases the mass per unit area of the components, thereby improving airborne sound insulation. On the other hand, the material’s internal damping acts directly against structure-borne noise, significantly reducing annoying rumbling noises.

A key advantage of Terodem® sheets is their ease of use. They are self-adhesive on one side and can therefore be fixed quickly, cleanly and permanently to a wide variety of substrates. The top side is coated with a PE anti-blocking layer, which both facilitates processing and protects the material from contamination. This means the films can be used with ease not only in series production but also in individual projects.

From a technical perspective, Terodem® heavy-duty films impress with their durability and safety. They can be used at temperatures up to +80 °C whilst remaining flexible and functional. At the same time, they are flame-retardant – properties that also make them suitable for safety-critical applications in construction, transport and industry.

Their range of applications is wide: in the automotive and machinery industries, the films are used for soundproofing thin sheet metal or plastic structures, e.g. bonnets, doors, machine casings or housings. In construction, they serve as an additional layer on lightweight walls, plasterboard or wooden panels, delivering a noticeable improvement in airborne sound insulation without significantly increasing the structure’s thickness or stiffness. In building services engineering as well – for example in ventilation ducts, lift shafts or metal cladding – the heavy-duty films help to reduce disturbing noise and noticeably increase comfort.

This versatility is also evident in the application options: Terodem® can be supplied as a sheet or cut to size, is easy to adapt and can be applied with pinpoint accuracy. The self-adhesive backing eliminates the need for additional adhesives, which significantly speeds up installation and reduces process costs.

Delivery form

Terodem and Teroform heavy-duty sheets are supplied as standard in trimmed sheet form and can also be manufactured to exact specifications as custom-cut pieces on request. The high flexibility and good conformability of the heavy-duty sheets enable precise further processing, even with complex geometries, and ensure straightforward integration into acoustic, vibration and insulation applications.

To ensure optimal material quality, it is recommended that the heavy-duty sheets be stored tension-free, flat or in their original format, and protected from dust, moisture and UV exposure.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: Bitumen heavy sheets such as Terodem® offer better anti-drone properties compared to plastic heavy sheets: they dampen natural resonances and vibrations in sheet metal parts particularly effectively. Plastic heavy sheets are more flexible, easier to work with and more robust against mechanical stress. Terodem® is the classic choice in vehicle construction for body damping.
A: Terodem® is typically installed by heating (e.g., with a heat gun) and pressing it onto the surface to be damp-proofed. Once heated, the bitumen compound bonds permanently to metal, plastic, and other surfaces. Full-surface coverage is recommended for maximum effectiveness.
A: Bitumen-based materials become soft at high temperatures from around 80 °C and may lose their shape. For applications near heat sources or in the engine compartment, we therefore recommend Teroform® heavy-duty plastic sheeting or Armaflex® HT. Terodem® is ideal for bodywork, floor and door applications where temperatures remain below 70 °C during normal operation.
A: Terodem® bitumen heavy-duty membrane is available in various thicknesses and sizes. Standard sizes and custom-cut sheets are available on request.
