Teroform® heavy-duty plastic film is a modern insulation material that has been specially developed to reduce airborne and structure-borne noise. Manufactured from a thermoplastic (EVA with mineral fillers), the film combines high mass density with exceptional flexibility. These properties make it an ideal solution for retrofitting acoustic optimisation to all types of building components without significantly altering or reinforcing the construction.

The operating principle is remarkably simple and extremely effective: by increasing the surface weight, the film significantly improves the sound insulation of lightweight structures such as sheet metal, plasterboard or wood-based materials. At the same time, the viscoelastic material acts as a damping layer against structure-borne noise, effectively minimising disruptive vibrations and rumbling noises. The film really comes into its own in areas where thin-walled components frequently transmit vibrations.

A key advantage of the Teroform® heavy-duty film is its double-sided self-adhesive properties. Thanks to this feature, it can be applied quickly and precisely: simply peel off the protective film, stick it down, and you’re done. The flexible structure allows for secure application even on uneven or complexly shaped surfaces. This enables installers to save valuable time whilst ensuring a durable, seamless bond.

Teroform® also impresses in terms of fire safety and temperature resistance. The film is classified as flame-retardant. Furthermore, it remains stable and functional at temperatures up to +150 °C, meaning it can also be used in technically demanding environments such as mechanical engineering and vehicle construction.

The range of applications is extremely diverse: in interior fit-out, Teroform® improves the sound insulation of lightweight walls, doors or roller shutter boxes. In building services engineering, it reduces noise in ventilation and air conditioning ducts or in machine casings. In vehicle and mechanical engineering, it is used to dampen sheet metal structures, thereby not only reducing noise levels but also significantly improving comfort for users and operators. Teroform® can even be incorporated as an additional layer in roof and floor applications to reduce impact noise and vibrations.

Thanks to its high flexibility and ease of installation, the film can be used both in standardised rolls and as custom-cut sheets. This makes it a universal solution that can be seamlessly integrated into a wide variety of projects – from the acoustic optimisation of individual components to large-scale applications in industrial plants or buildings.

Delivery form

Terodem and Teroform heavy-duty sheets are supplied as standard in trimmed sheet form and can also be manufactured to exact specifications as custom-cut pieces on request. The high flexibility and good conformability of the heavy-duty sheets enable precise further processing, even with complex geometries, and ensure straightforward integration into acoustic, vibration and insulation applications.

To ensure optimal material quality, it is recommended that the heavy-duty sheets be stored tension-free, flat or in their original format, and protected from dust, moisture and UV exposure.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

A: Teroform® heavy-duty plastic sheeting dampens sound due to its high mass. The principle of inertia prevents sound waves from causing the material to vibrate. The heavier and denser the sheeting, the more airborne and structure-borne noise is dampened. Teroform® is a proven material for sound insulation in vehicles, machinery and the construction industry.
A: Teroform® is frequently used for sound insulation in machine housings, vehicle floors, door panels and partition walls. In the construction industry, the sheet is used for impact sound insulation and to decouple structure-borne noise. Wherever thin but heavy insulation material is required, Teroform® is the first choice.
A: Teroform® is available in various weights, depending on the required insulation performance. Heavier variants offer better sound insulation, but are also thicker and heavier. Custom-cut sheets are available on request.
A: Yes, and this is actually recommended. Teroform® primarily insulates against airborne and structure-borne noise, but does not absorb reverberation. For an optimal overall solution, the heavy foil is often combined with an absorber layer made of PUR or melamine foam – as is the case with the Silphon® Kombi soundproofing mat.
