Round impact buffers – elastic damping elements for impacts and collisions
Round impact buffers are specially designed to act as elastic absorbers, effectively damping shocks and sudden impacts. They consist of a dimensionally stable rubber body to which fasteners such as screw bolts or internal threads are attached on one side of the elastic component. When an external impulse—such as an impact or a hard knock—strikes the buffer, it is set into vibration for a short time and returns to rest after a few vibration cycles. The energy is absorbed and dissipated in a controlled manner within the elastomer, thereby gently absorbing movements and reliably protecting adjacent components from damage.

Round impact buffers are specially designed to act as elastic absorbers, effectively damping shocks and sudden impacts. They consist of a dimensionally stable rubber body to which fasteners such as screw bolts or internal threads are attached on one side of the elastic component. When an external impulse – such as an impact or a hard knock – strikes the buffer, it is set into vibration for a short time and returns to rest after a few vibration cycles. The energy is absorbed and dissipated in a controlled manner within the elastomer, thereby gently absorbing movements and reliably protecting adjacent components from damage.
This type of energy absorption corresponds to subcritical mounting, in which the natural frequency of the vibrating system is higher than the frequency of the excitation source. In contrast, the term ‘vibration isolation’ is used when the reduction of vibrations is achieved primarily through targeted frequency tuning. Round end-of-travel buffers are used wherever end positions need to be limited, stops need to be damped or sensitive components need to be protected against overload – for example in mechanical and plant engineering, in conveyor technology, in vehicle construction or in doors, flaps and stop systems.
